Kanaria "We Are All Sheep"

Zen Foto Gallery is pleased to present “We Are All Sheep”, a solo exhibition of Kanaria’s work from July 14 to August 12, 2023. This is the thirteenth year since 2011 that Zen Foto Gallery began to hold Kanaria’s solo exhibition in the summer.

The exhibition will feature about 20 pieces of her latest works; in addition to her oil paintings on canvas, we will also present her latest work in different materials including acrylic on paper and glazed ceramics mounted on two-dimensional surfaces, which is her first attempt at doing so.

“We are all sheep.
Running in a herd, over the field and the hill.
We greet flowers, chase after butterflies,
and play hide-and-seek in the bushes.
Let’s jump over the fence and go to the grassland unknown.”

Artist Profile

Kanaria

Born in Osaka, in 1987, Kanaria graduated from Tama Art University Tokyo in 2011, specializing in oil painting. She moved to Paris in 2014 and obtained her postgraduate diploma at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2017. After participating in the artist residency programme at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris and Cabane Georgina, Marseille, she moved back to Japan in 2020. Kanaria has been actively participating in exhibitions in Japan and abroad. Since her first solo exhibition at Zen Foto Gallery in August 2011, Kanaria has held solo exhibitions at the gallery every summer. This year marks the 14th year of our collaboration.
